Captain Chet, a lifelong fisherman with a deep-rooted passion for the ocean, has been navigating the waters off Newport since 1988. During the 1990s, he honed his skills alongside his father, commercially fishing for Chinook Salmon on the “Patience” during the spring and summer seasons. This invaluable experience provided him an "on the job" understanding of ocean fish behavior and the factors that influence their feeding patterns. In 2011, he furthered his expertise by obtaining his USCG Master's License, marking the official launch of his charter boat career. Since then, Captain Chet has over 13 seasons of experience operating charter vessels ranging from 28 to 50 feet across diverse fishing grounds, from the pristine waters of Alaska to the rugged beauty of the Oregon coast. He has extensive experience targeting all major Northwest species, including Salmon, Lingcod, Halibut, Tuna, and Rockfish.
Captain Chet is passionate about sharing his love of fishing and the ocean with anglers of all skill levels, from seasoned veterans to enthusiastic newcomers. While Chinook Salmon remains his premier quarry, the thrill of the chase for Albacore on light tackle runs a close second. When not on the Bluefin, Chet pursues his own fishing passions, whether it's fly fishing for trout in the high lakes of the Cascades or embarking on epic adventures for Bluefin Tuna in the waters of Mexico.
Captain Robert has been a fixture in Newport's charter fishing scene since 2014. He gained valuable experience as a deckhand aboard charter vessels like the Gracie K, the Ilwaco Indian, and the Sea Venture 1. More recently, he achieved his USCG Master's License, enabling him to captain both the Sea Venture and the Bluefin, vessels ranging from 30 to 50 feet in length. Prior to his charter career, he was trained as a NOAA fisheries observer in the challenging environment of the Bering Sea.
When not navigating the Oregon coast, Captain Robert divides his time between Newport and Bend, spending his winters with family in the high desert. He possesses a diverse academic background, having served as an assistant in aquatic entomology at OSU-Cascades and as a tutor in upper-division biology and chemistry.
Robert is an avid outdoorsman with a deep-seated passion for all things aquatic. Whether it's battling salmon in the Pacific, chasing trout in the Deschutes River, or exploring any body of water with fins, he's always ready for the next adventure. He lives by the motto "health is the greatest wealth," recognizing that a healthy lifestyle is essential for pursuing his passion for outdoor recreation.
